Welcome home to our three World Challenge Teams who spent two weeks this summer exploring the stunning landscapes and vibrant culture of Montenegro.

Our pupils from Years 9 and 10 were soaking up the culture in the capital of Podgorica as well as visiting the breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage site in Kotor. Along the way they trekked through the dramatic terrain of Durmitor and Lovcen National Parks and enjoyed some well-earned relaxation time on the beaches of Tivat.

Over the course of 11 nights, pupils camped and took full responsibility for planning, preparing, and cooking their meals on camp stoves for expedition groups of up to 22 pupils and staff.  Menu planning, cooking and cleaning were all decided and managed by the pupils - a challenge they embraced with aplomb.

Thanks to careful budgeting of group funds, each expedition group found they were able to enjoy the occasional treat of a meal out in a restaurant. The Big Ben Cafe in Tivat proved particularly popular with the Bury Grammar School contingent this summer!

Each pupil and group have an experience which is unique and personal to them.   Some found the challenge of camping for 11 nights most demanding whilst for some the challenge of being away from home for an extended period was the greatest hurdle.  Whatever the test, every pupil rose to the occasion, and it was a privilege to hear the stories and memories they shared during reflection sessions.

A huge thank you to the school staff who gave up part of their summer to make this unforgettable experience possible. Thank you also to the parents—your support and the warm reunions at the end of the trip were a reminder of the importance of these shared experiences. And of course, a heartfelt thank you to the pupils who took part. You have been a pleasure to travel with, and we hope this journey has sparked a lifelong love of independent travel and cultural discovery.

Have a restful summer, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the new school year.

Thank you to Mr Dennis, Deputy Head Educational Visits, for leading this trip and for these words.
